A Place To Remember

There’s a place where we find love, where we find hope
Where we find meaning in our lives
There’s a place where we learn to care, where we learn to share
Where we learn to love those who need us there
There’s a place deep in my heart, where we once met together
Where we learnt to be braver, to hold on to our tears
There’s a place deep in our hearts, where we once met new faces
Who became friends to remember throughout life
Of course I’ll be always by your side
Times of sorrow, a friend to confide
But remember, someday you have to learn to fly
I know you’re still by my side
Times of laughter, a friend to share my happiness
Without you I won’t be here
This is the moment of our lives
Do remember all the times we shared
The laughter, the sorrow and all the tears
Are worthwhile because that’s the way we want to live our lives

I wrote this song many years ago when we were having our first job attachment. The transition from classroom to workplace was a difficult but challenging phase for my classmates and me. Though equipped with knowledge from textbooks, we were not warned about the psychological and emotional stress of the job. Confronted with the uncertainty of life and the harshness of this world, some of my friends were overwhelmed to tears, some learned to show more love and compassion to people around them while others became stronger and more accustomed to the vicissitudes of life. Nevertheless, we continued to encourage one another and remind ourselves of our purpose in life. At the end of the day, it was the camaraderie that kept all of us going and the satisfaction that we have done something meaningful for the people we meet along the way.
